Assessing Transformation at Hispanic Serving Institutions:
Assessing Culturally Enhancing Curriculum & Pedagogy at HSIs
This consultation is best for campuses that have already made some efforts towards transformation. This includes an established HSI team, a mission and vision for HSI, an HSI report that outlines the mission and vision, and buy-in from campus leaders. Using the Decolonizing HSIs Framework as a guide, Dr. Garcia will assess the nine elements of the framework using data provided by the campus, as well as a general review of campus websites (mission, purpose, membership, governance, technology, boundary management, incentives, justice & accountability, community standards). Dr. Garcia will provide a 10-15 page report to help campus administrators and HSI teams think critically about the organizational aspects that need to be addressed in order to effectively move the organization towards servingness. The report will include recommendations.
This consultation is best for campuses that want to assess faculty’s use of culturally enhancing curriculum and pedagogy on campus. Dr. Garcia will administer a validated survey that she is currently using to assess the use of culturally enhancing practices by faculty teaching at 10 HSIs across the United States. The survey will be administered via Qualtrics, with the support of campus leaders (i.e., president, provost). Dr. Garcia will provide a 10-15 page report with descriptive statistics based on survey responses. The report will include recommendations.
