Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) in Transition: From Latinx-Enrolling to Latinx-Serving

About the Study

You are invited to participate in a research study about Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in transition. This study will explore the process of federally designated HSIs moving from Latinx-enrolling to Latinx-serving. Specifically, it will investigate how college and university educators, decision-makers, and students have transformed the educational structures in order to better serve Latinx and low-income students.

Participation includes the following activities, although you may opt in or out at any time:

  • Complete a brief survey about yourself and your understanding of HSIs (10-15 minutes)

  • Submit an artifact that represents the way your institution is conveying its HSI identity (e.g., campus communication, strategic plan, HSI task force, HSI website, HSI logo, HSI social media accounts).

  • Participate in 1 one-on-one interview to discuss your ideas about HSI identities and organizational change (60-90 minutes)

You will receive a $25 gift card after the survey and artifact submission and a $50 gift card after the interview for a total of $75 for participation.

In order to participate, you must meet the following criteria:

  • College-level educator or practitioner (faculty, staff, administrator) OR college-level student (undergraduate, graduate, or former student)

  • Experience working with HSI initiatives on your current campus or former campus
